Hardwire for iOS · Effective September 2, 2026

In short: Hardwire has no account, no sign-in, and no server that stores anything you write. Everything you enter — tasks, habits, journal entries, focus sessions — stays on your device, in a storage container shared only between the app and its home-screen widgets. The app does send a small number of anonymous usage events (which screens get used, whether a purchase happened) to a privacy-focused analytics service — never anything you typed, and never anything that identifies you. The next section says exactly what that is and is not.

Analytics

Hardwire sends anonymous product-usage events to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use advertising identifiers and does not track you across other apps or websites. What gets sent is a closed, fixed list of events — the app cannot send anything outside it — covering things like: finishing onboarding, opening the app for the first time that day, completing a task or a habit, finishing a focus session, and whether and why the subscription screen was shown, purchased, or dismissed.

Every value in those events is a count, a bucketed range, or the name of a fixed option (never a free-form value) — a streak is reported as "8–14 days," never as the exact number, and a completed task is reported as "a task was completed," never with its title. Nothing you type anywhere in the app — a task, a journal entry, a habit name, a goal — is ever included. The one exception is rating a quote from the bundled library, which reports which quote (an internal content ID, not anything about you) and whether you rated it up or down, so the library itself can be improved over time.

Each install generates one random identifier, used only to recognize the same install across separate events. It has no connection to your name, email, or Apple ID, is not derived from any hardware or advertising identifier, and identifies an install, not a person. It is a different identifier from the one described below for the daily quote — that one is never sent anywhere, this one is sent nowhere else.

What we do not collect

Hardwire has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no backend server that stores what you write. We do not know who you are, and we have no way to find out. There is no advertising SDK, no crash reporter, and no cross-app tracking of any kind.

What stays on your device

Everything you create in the app — tasks, habits and their history, focus sessions, journal entries, goals, and which quotes you have favorited or rated — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework, inside a container shared between the app and its widgets. None of it is transmitted anywhere. If you delete the app, that data is deleted with it.

You can export a plain-JSON copy of everything you have written at any time from Settings → Your data → Export my data, and you control where that file goes from there. You can also permanently delete everything from Settings → Delete all data.

The daily quote seed

To show the same quote in the app, the widget, and a notification on a given day, the app generates one random identifier on first launch and stores it locally. It is not derived from your device's hardware, it is not an advertising identifier, and it never leaves your device — it exists only so the day's quote can be picked the same way twice.

Notifications

Reminder notifications (the daily quote, task nudges, a streak warning, a weekly summary) are scheduled locally on your device through iOS's own notification system. Nothing is sent to a push server, because there isn't one. You choose whether to allow notifications at all, and can change that at any time in iOS Settings.

Purchases

Premium is sold as a single one-time purchase through Apple's App Store, using StoreKit — nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel. Apple handles payment directly — we never see your card details, and the app only ever learns whether your purchase is active, not who you are or how you paid.

Children's privacy

Hardwire is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age — the app has nothing to collect in the first place.

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will change with it. Meaningful changes will also be reflected in the app's own release notes.
